Patient Success Stories
"Doctor Team Helps Young Patient"
Debi and Bob Tomaszewski of Venus, PA (near Clarion) drive 2-1/2 hours each way to take their 8-year-old son Mark to Vincett Eye Care Associates. When Mark was just 4, he was hit in the eye with a sharp object that punctured his eye while attending preschool. The injury required a four-day hospital stay.
During follow up care, local doctors diagnosed Mark with an injury-related lazy eye and advised him to wear a patch on his good eye. After years of no improvement and frustration, Mark's family asked to be referred to another doctor. They were sent to pediatric vision specialist Dr. William K. Vincett. Dr. Vincett brought in Dr. Ed Kondrot, the practice's in-house ophthalmologist, for a corneal evaluation. Mark's corneal scar didn't make him a good candidate for surgery, but it was determined a special contact lens might be the solution ' enter Dr. William K. Vincett Jr.'s area of expertise.
For three years Mark was considered nearly blind with one eye only seeing the big "E" on the chart. After seeing Dr. Vincett Jr. and being fitted with a contact lens, Mark's vision has improved to one row from the bottom of the eye chart. Mark looks forward to playing baseball this year.

"Difficult Prescriptions Our Specialty"
Woodland Hills school teach Donna Madaras heavily relies on good vision to perform her job. But as a severe astigmatic who has dry eyes, she needed to be refit from gas permeable lenses to soft lenses that correct for astigmatism. To find the ideal contact lenses for her has required some trial fittings. Subsequently, she has returned to see Dr. Vincett Jr. several times (although charged for only one fitting fee).
"No other doctor is going to be that patient. I call him my eye doctor guru," says Donna.
"We've had many patients come to us after being told they could not wear soft contact lenses," says Dr. Vincett Jr. "The fact is, most patients can. But because difficult prescriptions, such as astigmatics, take a lot more time to fit in soft lenses, many doctors avoid fitting them. We believe, however, patient satisfaction and comfort is our job ' regardless of how long it takes. So bring us your difficult prescription or unique eye care need. We welcome you!"

"Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Letter to the Editor"
It was with interest and enjoyment that I read your article on the Vincett family optometrists (June 9, 1996). Both of these men, in their own way, had a profound effect on the academic and athletic career of my son.
As an elementary student, my son (now 21) was having problems in school. On the recommendation of a friend, I took him to Dr. Vincett Sr. He not only needed glasses, but was also diagnosed with an eye muscle disorder. After several months of therapy, the problem was corrected.
When he reached junior high, he decided he wanted contact lenses. Because of the type of vision problem he had, we thought contacts were out of the question. Enter Dr. Vincett Jr. He worked several months before successfully fitting my son with contacts.
This past May, my son graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in Civil Engineering. While at Lafayette, he was the starting goal keeper on the soccer team that made it to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament. Without the help of the Vincetts, he would never have been as successful as a student or athlete.
Sincerely, Lois Weaver

"Northcote-Greens Cross the Sea to See"
When Jennifer and James Northcote-Green of Surrey, England, were transferred to Pittsburgh, they didn't know who to turn to for their eye care needs until they asked a friend who referred them to Vincett Eye Care Associates. Little did they know when their American stint was over and they moved back to England, their relationship with their U.S. eye doctor would continue. In fact, when they returned this past April to attend their son's graduation from the University of Pittsburgh, Jennifer made sure she got an eye exam. According to Jennifer, they haven't been able to find a practice back home with the same level of care they receive at Vincett Eye Care Associates. She says of her doctor, Dr. Vincett Jr., "He takes a very modern approach and is refreshing and enthusiastic about his profession. He keeps up-to-date with interesting equipment and is very innovative. You feel very confident in his hands."

"NFL Referee Dale Hamer Makes the Call with the Help of Vincett Eye Care Associates"
During the week, patient Dale Hamer wears glasses and spends his time as Alumni Director of California University of Pennsylvania. But on weekends and on select Monday nights, you can find him on national television sporting contact lenses and the number 104 on the back of his black and white referee's uniform.
Contrary to coaches and fans who might on occasion accuse him of poor vision, Dale sees just fine thanks to his regular eye exams and preference for contacts when officiating. "Contacts make it very easy to work the game," Dale says. "Weather, sweating, the bright lights of the stadium ... and getting hit, make glasses impractical."
As the crew chief of seven officials who work the game, Dale travels every weekend during the professional football season due to the league's rule of not permitting refs to officiate their home team. He considers the frequent travel a small price to pay for doing something he has greatly enjoyed for the past 33 years ' the last 18 years with the National Football League. He is considered one of the best too, and has the Super Bowl rings to prove it. He was honored with being chosen head linesman for Super Bowls XVII and XXII, and as alternate referee for Super Bowl XXVII.

"A Vincett Patient for 73 Years, Nick Botti Visits New Office Facility"
When 88-year-old East McKeesport resident Nick Botti heard the news of his eye doctor's office moving to a new location, there was no question what he would do ' follow him to his new office of course! It's the same thing he has done on three previous occasions throughout his 73 years as a patient.
His first visit to the practice was in 1926, as a Wilmerding public school 8th grader. He was sent on a train and asked to supervise the younger school children as they made a trip to East Pittsburgh to get their eyes examined by Dr. Kenneth Vincett.
"The Vincetts have been the only eye doctors in my life," says Nick. "I've always been treated fairly and found no reason to change."
"I consider it to be the highest compliment when patients who have seen my grandfather, continue to have confidence in the eye care provided by the practice's future generations and associates," says Dr. William Vincett Jr.

"Braces for the Eyes Becoming Popular New Non-Surgical Treatment for Nearsightedness"
After sleeping with Precision Corneal Molding (PCM) lenses for only one night, patient Brenda Popovich couldn't believe the results, simply describing her improved vision as "amazing."
After removing her lenses in the morning, her corrected vision lasts throughout the day without the aid of any contacts of glasses.
Brenda works in front of a computer all day as an employee of Federated Investors in Pittsburgh. "My eyes would dry out," says Brenda. "I always felt like I had contact lenses in my eyes."
Because of the discomfort, she would sometimes avoid wearing her contacts, reverting to squinting and occasional headaches.
PCM has eliminated Brenda's dry eyes and headaches. She even reports an improvement in her depth perception when driving.
Brenda's adjustment to the new lenses has been minimal. "Sleeping in the lenses has not been a problem at all," she says. "I don't even feel the lenses."
